Jim Runcie has been practicing law for almost 40 years. His litigation practice has focused on wrongful termination of employment, personal injury, and general civil litigation, including professional malpractice claims, commercial and property disputes, probate litigation, as well as zoning and other regulatory matters. Jim's practice also includes wills, trusts, probate matters and real property.
Following law school and a clerkship at the Vermont Supreme Court with Justice Franklin Billings, Jim worked at a large firm in Burlington for several years. He joined his college friend Jim Ouimette in Vergennes in 1985, forming the partnership Ouimette & Runcie.
Most of his legal work is in civil litigation. He has tried hundreds of cases to conclusion in state and federal courts, as well as before regulatory agencies. He has tried more than 25 jury cases to verdict and appeared before the Vermont Supreme Court more than 30 times. Reported cases include: Rainforest Chocolate, LLC v. Sentinel Ins.
